Getting Started with Audiences

Checkmate Audiences helps you capture emails earlier in the buyer journey - before checkout. Using a secure SSO (single sign on)-gated offer widget, you can turn anonymous traffic into opted-in CRM contacts and gain visibility into who’s browsing, not just who’s buying. You’ll also get access to detailed Audience Insights to inform your segmentation, offer strategy, and product positioning.


Setup Overview

To activate Audiences, follow the Getting Started guidto make sure the following steps are complete:

  • Install the Checkmate Shopify app

  • Send your Klaviyo API key (to sync opt-in data to your CRM)

  • Customize your checkout by adding the Checkmate widget

  • Enable Shop Pay compatibility (if applicable)

  • Set up Google Tag Manager (highly recommended if your store uses GTM)

Setting up the Audiences Widget

The widget displays during checkout and prompts shoppers to unlock a discount by securely logging in via email (SSO). Here’s how to set it up:

  1. Go to Settings > Checkout in your Shopify admin
  2. Click Customize on your live checkout
  3. In the Order Summary section, click Add app block and select the Checkmate Widget
  4. In the Checkout Behavior menu, check the box to include the app block in Shop Pay
  5. Choose a theme (light or dark) to match your brand styling
  6. Click Save in the upper right corner

That’s it! You’re now ready to collect opt-ins at checkout and sync them directly into Shopify and your CRM (eg. Klaviyo).
